Courts, University of Lincoln

Client
University of Lincoln

Challenge:

Lincoln University needed to design their first university owned student accommodation development. The brief was to create a large complex of student accommodation located across from the University with en-suite bedrooms and communal areas to help students socialise. This development was part of the expansion of Lincoln University and designed to cope with the rise in student enrolment.

Solution:

The vast plot for the development located adjacent to the university was ideal for contemporary self-catered apartment blocks to create a student community. With 5 to 8 students in each block and spacious communal areas this manageable approach to student accommodation provided students with a cohesive social environment. Large quantities of glass were used to take advantage of the serene waterfront and therefore, great for maintaining student wellbeing as large amount of natural light is brought into the blocks.

Conclusion:

The complex is made up of 17 contemporary blocks of apartments and a total of 1037 fully furnished student bedrooms. The pioneering student accommodation was the largest of its kind and contributed extensively to the extension of Lincoln University. The experience gained from Lincoln Courts has formed many of the designs for our most recent student accommodation projects such as, Valentine Court, The Gateway and 179 Highstreet.
