Challenge:
Designing a modern student accommodation facility on an old derelict car park situated on Waterlane in Lincoln. A clean, contemporary design was required to bring a new lease of life to the street. The location runs parallel to the Highstreet in Lincoln and a 5-min walk from the Lincoln University campus making it ideal for student accommodation.
Solution:
The external façade is made up of white render with simple clean lines teamed with a glass curtain walling on the street level to provide maximum exposure for the use of retail space. The roof space has been utilised and set back from the front of the building to tie in with neighbouring buildings and not impose on the street below. The interior is a high spec that was used on the gateway project that utilised a bright colour scheme to inject a modern feel.
Conclusion:
The student accommodation comprises of 15 en suite bedrooms with 850 sq ft of retail space that maximises light and shop frontage by using floor to ceiling glass curtain walling. Adapting our en suite bedroom design from the successful Gateway student accommodation project facilitated us with utilising the space available and saving both time and costs.
