Gas & Plumbing Workshop, Newark College

Challenge:

The former garage building located in Newark on Trent is owned by Newark College and was used as storage for the college. The building had become dilapidated and in need of repair; the roof was in need of replacement and there were elements of asbestos within the building which were safely removed.

Solution:

The former dilapidated garages doors were removed and the garage was striped back to it’s shell. New curtain walling and new entrances into the exiting garage door openings were installed. Reutilising the structure of the existing building both saved money for the client and provided suitable solution to the renovation.

Conclusion:

The Gas & Plumbing Workshop provide facilities for the training of young plumbers and heating engineers training at the college as well for adult training for existing local plumbers and heating engineers. The renovation and conversion of the existing garages to educational Plumbing Workshops has had a positive impact on the appearance of the existing building as well as to the street scene of Magnus Street.
