Challenge:
DRET is a multi-academy trust that Stem has worked closely with for a number of years. Stem’s vast experience teamed with communication fostered a strong relationship and has created the opportunity to design new schools and refurbishments for DRET’s existing portfolio of 34 academies. Stem are trusted with the design and specification for both internal and external new builds and refurbishments throughout their portfolio. A cost effective, quality build that is design to last, excite and inspire students is essential to what the trust requires.
Solution:
The exteriors were designed with a simple and clean aesthetic that are easy to maintain and will be cost effective in the long term. Sustainable materials were used where possible to reduce the environmental impact on the buildings. Stem provided a bright colourful aesthetic for the interiors to provide an inspiring learning environment that promotes well being.
Conclusion:
The refurbishment works aim to significantly upgrade the learning environments for DRET, creating additional spaces to study and revise in specialist break out areas. The ethos was that the better quality the design and facilities used, the better young people would respond both in and out of the classroom. A forward thinking, future proofing design was adopted that results in facilitating DRET with the ease of expansion if required in the long term.
