The Gateway, University of Lincoln

Client
Jackson & Jackson

Challenge:

The Gateway was an essential addition to address Lincoln’s growth of students as outlined by the continuing University of Lincoln’s master plan. Stem were tasked with maximising bed spaces whilst maintaining a high spec and luxury feel for students. This originated from the need to minimise the impact on the established residential areas of the city as outlined by Lincoln Council.

Solution:

Stem utilised the available space in the 8 storey development by designing a mixture of studio apartments and cluster flats. This approach added value to the student experience and was vital in offering a mix of options for students that prefer their own space and students that want to social opportunities and meet people.

Conclusion:

A modern and vibrant student accommodation located a 2 min walk away from the University will be a favourite of students for years to come. By utilising both cluster and studio rooms a substantial 519 rooms were achieved, providing the largest and most convenient student accommodation in Lincoln. A student accommodation the size of the gateway has substantial energy output and incorporating solar panels and energy efficiency measures we were able to reduce the carbon emissions by 15%.
