Stem was challenged with converting Lincoln’s former Mouchel offices into a retail, leisure and residential complex. Situated adjacent to the idyllic Brayford Quay, One the Brayford offered an exclusive location to create residential apartments and an inclusive office environment. The limiting space had posed a barrier to the client’s vision of a large commercial centre; it needed to offer office space.
The frontage area was extended in-order to incorporate restaurant and retail space with elevated office space added above a service area. The exterior of the building was upgraded in its entirety – over cladding with insulation aluminium planks and timber effect boarding – thus producing a semi-glace façade that includes new balconies and windows. Also, increasing the height of the building by two floors and extending the elevator shaft allowed the creation of extra residential apartments, utilising the space effectively.
One the Brayford is Lincoln’s most exclusive residential apartment complex. The waterfront development stands out against the urban fabric with a bold, fresh identity. With its prime location and innovative office space, Stem now operates in the office space overlooking the Brayford pool. This also includes desirable amenities such as cafes and retail outlets which were added to the ground floor along the Brayford front. The development aims to restore life into a part of the Brayford that currently feels discontinued.
