Challenge:

A brand-new contemporary brick block building that maximise the internal learning spaces was key to cope with the large demand of students from surrounding Doncaster secondary schools. The first phase of the college is planned for an initial surge of 450 students. The requirements were for future expansion to be as easy as possible to build to meet the rising demands of student numbers.

Solution:

A red brick teamed with vertical curtain walling details and a contrasting cladding provides a dynamic building that delivers both practically and aesthetically. A sports facility with further expansion plans was designed to adapted the new build to manage a further 400 students. Stem provided multifunctional areas, with break out spaces for studying and a large state of the art sports facility.

Conclusion:

A multi-purpose atrium, designed for teaching spaces, break out studying spaces and a multifunctional sports hall that will provide a learning environment for over 1000 students. A vast number of windows were used to bring in lots of natural light to promote well being for the students. Large communal spaces provide students with spaces to interact and build lasting friendships that will improve social cohesion.
