Harbourmasters, Lincoln

Challenge:

The site presented a particularly unique challenge, an existing platform sitting adjacent to a busy navigable channel which would have to be re-enforced and extended in order to support a new larger structure. The brief was to create a dynamic new structure to house a bespoke restaurant/bar on this constrained platform, creating a new waterfront destination to further enhance the thriving retail area along Brayford Wharf North.

Solution:

The design utilises the existing platform and extends it to create a much larger footprint on which the new structure can stand. Expanding the platform further into the Brayford meant that four protective fenders were incorporated into the design on the south side of the structure to negate the risk of collision from passing river traffic. A dynamic mix of standing seam zinc and timber wrap around large areas of glazing that provides diners with unobstructed views over the Brayford.

Conclusion:

The unique location and modern dynamic design make the Harbourmasters development an iconic presence on Lincoln’s popular Brayford Waterfront. The structure which is home to Wagamama restaurant has become a popular destination and dramatically enhanced the bustling North shore of the Brayford, helping to attract further big name shops and restaurants to the local area.
